                  Silpakorn University Library was first established in 1964 as a section in the General Affairs Division, Office of the President, Wang Tha Phra Campus. When Sanam Chandra Palace campus was found in 1967, another library was set up. In 1989, the two libraries were merged together into the Central Library.

                  In 1992, a restructuring to the Central Library was initiated, allowing the Central Library to comprise three sectors : 1) Office of the Secretary, 2) Wang Tha Phra Campus Library, and 3) Sanam Chandra Palace Campus Library. Each library is further divided into three departments : 1) cataloguing and classification, 2) reader services, and 3) audio-visuals. (The Library Director is in charge of managing facilitating and centralizing both campus libraries.)
To be the academic center in order to support and strengthen teaching, learning, and research activities for staff, students, and general public ;
To provide information resources of academic materials : books, serials, audio-visual materials, and internet access to users ;
To support creating information resources on Thai art and culture ;
To encourage academic cooperation between the Central Library and educational institutions both locally and worldwide.
                  An automated library system, INNOPAC, is available to provide a 24-hour access to users. Currently, the Library supplies possesses 343,000 books, 440 journals, and 4 networking databases : ERIC, MEDLINE, ABI/Inform, and DAO. (Other local databases created by the Libraries are : Silpakorn University Archives Database, created by Sanam Chandra Palace Library.) Moreover, Wang Tha Phra Library creates a website, ERA (Electronic Resources on Art in Thailand at http://www.era.su.ac.th and also initiates a production of multimedia in CD-ROMs on art.
