Silpakorn University hosted the SICTAS 2026 (Silpakorn University International Conference in Total Art and Science) to create an international platform for integrating art, music, design, and technology. The conference aims to find solutions and build sustainability across social, cultural, and environmental dimensions.
Dr. Sriyada Palimaphan, Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), assigned by Deputy Prime Minister and MHESI Minister Prof. Dr. Yotchanan Wongsawat, presided over the opening ceremony. She was joined by Prof. Dr. Tanasait Ngawhirunpat, President of Silpakorn University, faculty members, students, and international experts at the 5th floor of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC).
Attendees explored creative research exhibitions, art showcases, and Faculty Showcases displayed across floors L, 1, 3, 4, and 5 of the BACC. The exhibits featured cutting-edge architecture, masterful fine arts, ASEAN-level designs, multimedia innovations, and live concerts, reinforcing Silpakorn University's position as Thailand's leading hub for arts and design on the international stage.
A major highlight of the opening day was the special lectures by six global Keynote Speakers: Christian Guellerin (France) on designer ethics in the AI era; Yusaku Imamura (Japan) on finding new artistic alternatives; Lynne M. Dearborn (USA) on integrating local wisdom with eco-innovation; Prof. Xianfeng HUANG (China) on 3D technology for world heritage preservation; Prof. Kuniko Satake (Japan) on contemporary lithography; and Prof. Leon Rubin alongside Dr. Timothy O’Dwyer (Singapore) on the power of music for sustainability.
The event also featured a Panel Discussion titled "Unbounded Creativity: Global Perspectives and New Territories in Art & Design," exchanging visions on driving international collaborations. Panelists included Prof. Yinghua LI, PhD (China), Prof. Dr. Lynne M. Dearborn (USA), Dr. Timothy O’Dwyer (Singapore), Dr. Bridget Tracy Tan (Singapore), and Asst. Prof. Dr. Vichaya Mukdamanee, Vice President for Art and Culture at Silpakorn University.
The conference includes over 80 academic presentations divided into 10 tracks, covering visual arts, architecture, design, classical and jazz music, and cultural heritage conservation. Formats range from oral and poster presentations to live Artwork-Music-Design showcases, rotating throughout the event from June 17-21, 2026.
